In the summer of 1991, I believed in Jesus. Thanks to the special favor of the Lord, I read the Bible in the church first and began to preach soon after. Later, I shepherded the church, led the Bible study, and did works to revive the church. Thus, I sat in the position of a senior leader. I was received by over one hundred families, and the churches I frequently went to shepherd were over seventy. Therefore, all the time I had been running around among the churches. While serving the Lord, I was earnestly expecting the second coming of the Savior Jesus, waiting for him to take us back to the heavenly home soon and give me the crown of righteousness. However, I had never expected that when Jesus came, I shut the door on the gracious Lord whom I had been earnestly expecting for many years and became an arch-criminal resisting God.

In the spring of 1994, when two sisters preached God’s end-time work to me, I not only refused to listen to them, but also condemned, slandered, and blasphemed it, and drove them out. A few days later, they brought me a book called The Savior Has Already Returned. When I read in the book that the Lord had already come to earth and was working in China, I said arrogantly, “That’s impossible! …” Then, I burned the book without thinking. In the summer of 1996, a brother came to preach the gospel to me. He fellowshipped about God’s new work with me as he helped me plant corn. In less than an hour, I began to condemn it and say blasphemies and then drove him away. Afterward, I fabricated rumors and said in the Bible study meetings, “‘Eastern Lightning’ is a cult, a deceiver, and an antichrist! It is very powerful and is like an underworld organization. Once you join it, you will never be able to get out of it. If you want to get out, you will be killed. And your eyes will be gouged out, your nose will be cut off, your legs will be broken, or you will even be buried alive!” I fabricated these rumors mainly to frighten the brothers and sisters so that they would not come into contact with the people of “Eastern Lightning.” And I often instructed them, saying, “No one should receive strangers lest you receive the preachers of ‘Eastern Lightning.’ We should recognize the way, not man. Anything apart from the Bible is false. If he does not preach according to the Bible, we will not receive him, even if he is your sibling. If I, Liu Zhonghua, departed from the original belief, you should also drive me out with sticks!” But not long after, to my surprise, some co-workers whom I knew accepted Almighty God one after another, and even my teacher accepted too. At that time, I thought, “They are so familiar with the Bible; how come they have also been deceived by ‘Lightning’? If only I will not be deceived!” So, I closed the churches to outsiders more frenziedly and also led the brothers and sisters to resist and blaspheme Almighty God’s end-time work.

Because of our frenzied resistance, God’s wrath befell us. In the second half of 2001, Sister Ding in the church of Mengcheng County went insane because she refused to accept God’s end-time work, drove away those who preached the gospel, slandered and blasphemed Almighty God, and even wanted to throw the book of God’s word into the latrine. On the morning of November 4th of that year, she fell in the latrine, foaming at the mouth, and died. Not very long after, Sister Liu, a co-worker in our church, also went insane because of resisting Almighty God.

Although I saw that these people came to no good end, I still did not wake up to reality. In the spring of 2002, I went to a church in Mengcheng County. Hearing that two sisters in that church had accepted Almighty God, I went to disturb them and abused those who preached the gospel and wantonly condemned, blasphemed, and slandered God’s end-time work. And after that, I went to the homes of two other sisters who had accepted Almighty God to shout and fuss and even wanted to dial “110” for the police to arrest them. In July of that year, another brother came to preach the end-time gospel to me, but I still condemned and slandered it, and even stoned him and wanted to destroy the book of God’s word and call for the police to arrest him. Although I treated him like that, he still came many times to preach to me, but each time I drove him away mercilessly.

In retrospect, I had done too many evil deeds of resisting God. Just when I was frenziedly resisting and hindering God’s work, God’s nature came upon us once again. My mother suddenly fractured her foot. Soon after, when I went out by bike, I fell from a bridge into a ditch over five meters deep and broke my chin. On the afternoon of that day, I bumped into a tree at the roadside when riding and got a big bruised bump on my forehead. Later, Ge XX of a host family in Woyang County refused to accept God’s end-time work when his cousin preached it to him and even beat her. As a result, his son had a traffic accident, costing him more than 20,000 yuan, and his daughter had a fall and broke her leg. At the same time, Brother Li in our church got diphtheria because of resisting Almighty God…. This series of things that had happened in the church forced me to examine myself: “The Lord’s grace, peace, and joy have been accompanying us all along while we believe in God and worship God. Why doesn’t the Lord Jesus keep us today? Why have so many disasters befallen us? Could it be that the one we have resisted is the true God?”
