How should a believer in God treat the Bible? This is a matter of principle. Why do I fellowship about this issue? Because to preach the gospel and spread the work of the Age of the Kingdom in the future, it is not enough if you can only speak about the knowledge of God’s work of today. To spread the work, more importantly, you must be able to resolve people’s old religious notions and old ways of believing and cause them to be sincerely convinced. To achieve this, you have to talk about the Bible. For so many years, people’s traditional way of believing (that is, the way of believing of Christianity, one of the three main religions in the world) is reading the Bible. Any belief apart from the Bible is not belief in the Lord. And any belief apart from the Bible is cult or heresy. Even if anyone wants to read other books, they must be books interpreting the Bible. That is to say, if you say you believe in the Lord, you have to read the Bible and eat and drink the Bible and cannot worship other unrelated books apart from the Bible. Otherwise, you are forsaking God. Since there was the Bible, people’s belief in the Lord has become belief in the Bible. They have believed in the Bible rather than in the Lord; they have begun to believe in the Bible rather than read the Bible; they have returned before the Bible rather than before the Lord. Thus, they worship the Bible as God and take it as their life. If they do not have the Bible, they will feel as if they had no life. They regard the Bible as high as God, even higher than God. If they do not have the working of the Holy Spirit or cannot sense God, they can live. But if they lose the Bible or the famous verses and words in the Bible, they will feel as if they had lost their life. Thus, after a person believes in the Lord, he begins to read and memorize the Bible. The more one is capable of memorizing the Bible, the more it proves that he loves the Lord and has great faith. Those who can speak about the Bible to others after reading it are all very good brothers and sisters. For so many years, people measure a person’s faithfulness to the Lord or his faith according to how much he understands the Bible. Most people simply do not know the purpose of believing in God or understand how to believe in God. They simply collect the clues blindly that can unlock the verses of the Bible. And they never seek after the direction of the Holy Spirit’s working but keep studying and investigating the Bible laboriously. There has never been anyone who has been able to find the newer work of the Holy Spirit outside the Bible. No one can stay away from the Bible, and no one dares to stay away from the Bible. People have studied the Bible for so many years, giving so many interpretations and spending so much effort. And they have many divergent views on the Bible and have been arguing about it endlessly. As a result, more than two thousand denominations have been formed up till today. People all want to find in the Bible some interpretations higher than others’ or deeper mysteries. They all want to explore the Bible and find in it some background of Jehovah’s working in Israel or some background of Jesus’ working in Judea or more mysteries that other people do not know. People all “worship” and “believe” in the Bible. No one can be completely clear about the inside story and the substance of the Bible. So, even today people still have an unspeakable sense of wonder about the Bible, and they “worship” and “believe” in the Bible all the more. Today, people all want to discover in the Bible the prophecies concerning the end-time work and want to discover in it what work God is going to do in the end time and what the signs of the end time will be. Thus, their worship of the Bible becomes even more intense. The nearer the end time is, the more they believe in the prophecies in the Bible, especially those concerning the end time. As people worship and trust in the Bible so much, they have no heart to seek the work of the Holy Spirit. People believe these according to their notions: Only the Bible can bring in the work of the Holy Spirit; only in the Bible can God’s footsteps be traced; only in the Bible are there hidden the mysteries of God’s work; only the Bible thoroughly explains everything of God and all of his work, and no other books or people can do that; the Bible can bring the work in heaven to earth; and the Bible can start an age and end an age. As people have these notions, they have no desire to seek the work of the Holy Spirit. So, no matter how helpful the Bible was to people before, it has now become an obstacle to God’s newest work. If there were no Bible, people might seek God’s footsteps outside it. But today God’s footsteps have been “controlled” by the Bible. The spreading of the newest work meets extreme difficulty, and meets hindrance at every single step. All these are caused by the famous verses and words and the many prophecies in the Bible. The Bible has become an idol in people’s heart and a “riddle” in their mind. They can hardly believe that God would do another work outside the Bible or that they can find God apart from the Bible, much less that God would make a new start in the final work apart from the Bible. They all feel that these things are incomprehensible, unbelievable, and unimaginable. The Bible has become a big obstacle to people’s accepting God’s newer work and a difficulty to God’s spreading the newer work. Therefore, if you do not know about the inside story of the Bible, you will have no way to preach the gospel smoothly or testify about the new work. Although you do not read the Bible today, you are still very friendly toward it. In other words, although what you hold in your hand is no longer the Bible, you still have many notions that originate from the Bible. None of you understands the origin of the Bible or the inside story of the first two stages of the work. Although you do not eat and drink the Bible anymore, you have to know about the Bible and have a proper knowledge of it. Only then can you know what the six-thousand-year management plan is. You can convince them by these things, causing them to acknowledge that this stream is the true way and that the path these people take today is the path of the truth and is led by the Holy Spirit, not opened up by man.
