On Quieting Your Heart Before God

Quieting the heart before God is the most crucial step in entering into God’s word. It is a lesson everyone needs to learn right now. Here are some ways for you to quiet your heart before God:

1. Withdrawing your heart from the outward things and quieting it before God and praying to him with a single heart.

2. Quieting your heart before God and eating and drinking and enjoying his word.

3. Meditating and contemplating God’s love and pondering his work with your heart at ordinary times.

You have to first exercise to pray, praying with a single heart and at a regular time. No matter how pressed you are for time, how busy you are with your work, or what things you encounter, you should pray normally and eat and drink God’s word normally every day. If you have great enjoyment in your spirit and are not disturbed by the surrounding people, matters, or things when you eat and drink God’s word no matter what circumstances you are in, and you are not disturbed by the outward things when you contemplate God at ordinary times, this means that you are mature in stature. You have to first exercise to pray. It is most effective to pray with a heart quiet before God. Then, you have to eat and drink God’s word. You should try to receive light through pondering God’s words, find ways to practice from them, know God’s purpose in speaking them, and understand them accurately. At ordinary times, you should draw near to God normally, contemplate his love, and ponder his word in your heart, and keep yourself from being disturbed by the outward things. When you can quiet your heart to an extent that you can be in a state of meditation, contemplating God’s love and truly drawing near to God within in any circumstances, eventually to the extent where you can utter praises from your heart, which is better than prayer, this means that you are rather mature in stature. If you can be in the states I have just talked about, it shows that you truly quiet your heart before God. This is the first basic exercise. Only when one is quiet before God will he receive moving, inspiration, and enlightenment from the Holy Spirit, have genuine fellowship with God, know God’s heart’s desire, and know the Holy Spirit’s guidance. That means he has been on the right track of a spiritual living. When one can exercise to live before God to an extent where he can forsake himself, hate himself, and live by God’s word, this means that he truly quiets his heart before God. People can hate themselves, curse themselves, and forsake themselves. These are the results of God’s working on them, and people themselves cannot do them. Therefore, quieting their heart before God is a lesson people should learn right now. Some people not only cannot quiet their heart before God at ordinary times, but they cannot even quiet their heart before God when they pray. This is far below God’s standard! Will your heart be moved by the Holy Spirit if you do not quiet it before God? If you cannot be quiet before God, your heart may be drawn away by anyone’s coming, by others’ talking, or by others’ doing things. This shows that you are not a person who lives before God. If your heart is truly quiet before God, it won’t be disturbed by any external thing or occupied by any other person, matter, or thing. If you enter into this, naturally you will be out of your passive states, and you will have no more negative things such as notions, philosophies of life, abnormal relationships with others, or thoughts of your own. As you always ponder God’s words, always draw near to him in your heart, and are always occupied by his practical words, you will unconsciously cast off those negative things. When you are occupied by new positive things, the old negative things will have no place in you. So do not pay attention to those negative things. You do not need to try hard to suppress them yourself. You should try to be quiet before God, eating, drinking, and enjoying God’s word more and singing hymns to praise God more, so that God can have opportunities to work on you. Now God is perfecting people personally and he wants to gain your heart, so his Spirit moves your heart. If you follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit and live before God, you will satisfy God. If you try to live in God’s word, fellowshipping more about the truth to receive inspiration and enlightenment from the Holy Spirit, you will have no more religious notions, self-rightness, or self-importance, and you will know how to expend yourself for God, how to love God, and how to satisfy God. And unconsciously you will totally disregard the things other than God.

Pondering and praying over God’s practical words when eating and drinking them is the first step in being quiet before God. If you can be truly quiet before God, the Holy Spirit will inspire and enlighten you.

One can live all his spiritual living effectively only through being quiet before God. When you pray, you have to be quiet before God, and only then will you be moved by the Holy Spirit. When you eat and drink God’s word, you will receive inspiration and enlightenment and truly know God’s word only if you are quiet before God. When you meditate, fellowship, and draw near to God with your heart at ordinary times, you will in your heart truly draw near to God, truly know God’s love and work, and truly care for God’s intention only if you are quiet before God. The more you are quiet before God at ordinary times, the more you will be enlightened, and you will know your corrupt nature, what you lack, what you should enter into, what functions you should perform, and what defects you have. You can only achieve these through being quiet before God. If you are truly quiet before God to a certain extent, you will know some mysteries in the spirit, know what God is doing on you now, have a deeper knowledge of God’s word, know the essence of God’s word, know the substance of God’s word, know the being of God’s word, and see the ways to practice more clearly and accurately. If you are not quiet in your spirit to a certain extent, you will only receive some moving from the Holy Spirit and have some strength and enjoyment and peace within, but you will not know any deeper things. I once said such a word: “If one does not exert all his strength, he will hardly hear my voice or see my face.” By this, I mean that he has to be quiet before God to a certain extent, but not that he has to exert strength outwardly. If one can be truly quiet before God, he will be able to cast off all his worldly entanglements and will be occupied by God. Whoever cannot be quiet before God is definitely a wild and unrestrained person. Whoever can be quiet before God is a person who is godly before God and who thirsts for God. Only he who can be quiet before God is a person who pays attention to life, who pays attention to fellowship in the spirit, who thirsts for God’s word, and who pursues the truth. Whoever does not pay attention to being quiet before God and does not try to quiet himself before God is a superficial person who loves the world and a person who has no life. Even if he says he believes in God, he believes with his lips. All those who can be made perfect and complete by God in the end are the ones who can be quiet before God. Therefore, those who can be quiet before God are the greatly blessed ones. Those who spend little time eating and drinking God’s word a day but busy themselves with the outward things and pay no attention to entering into life are all hypocrites. They won’t have a future. Only those who can be quiet before God and have genuine fellowship with God are God’s people.
